Bannister Road project is complete By CHARLES DUNCANNo more bumpy rides on Bannister Road. The Dawson County Board of Commissioners Thursday officially dedicated Bannister Road on Thursday, hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the freshly paved road. The new asphalt now gives residents a second entrance to Rock Creek Park. The dedication also marked the addition of the Rock Creek Sports Complex information sign. "I've already heard from folks who say they are really happy about being able to come two ways now to get into the park," Commission Chair Mike Berg said. "This not only gives better access to the park, but also with the sign, it allows the public to know what is going on at the park." The two-year project included paving the graveled road and realigning the roadbed to allow for improved sight distance for motorists. The right of way was cleared to make for a more visible approach and to make the intersection more recognizable, said Public Works Director David Headley. Also, the recently installed information sign allows motorists adequate warning that the park entry is approaching. The sign allows motorists ample opportunity to brake as they approach Bannister Road, Headley said. The project was completed ahead of schedule and on budget, Headley said. The road improvements were paid for through funds accumulated through special purpose local option sales tax dollars in SPLOST IV. "This is just another example of SPLOST dollars working for all the citizens of Dawson," Berg said. |
